🇨🇾 Cyprus Preparation Activities – Feelings Unleashed (FUL)
Exploring Emotional Wellbeing Through Research, Creativity and Youth Perspectives
As hosts of the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Feelings Unleashed (FUL), the Cypriot team carried out an extensive programme of preparation activities that combined academic research, national reflection, and creative educational design. Participants explored the emotional experiences of young people in Cyprus while examining the cultural, social, and educational factors that influence emotional expression.
Working collaboratively, the team prepared two complementary research papers supported by reliable European and national sources, while also creating a collection of educational posters designed to raise awareness about emotional wellbeing, communication, empathy, and creativity. Their work reflects both the realities experienced by young people in Cyprus and the wider objectives of the Feelings Unleashed project: encouraging open dialogue, emotional literacy, inclusion, and intercultural understanding.

National Research – Emotional Expression Among Young People in Cyprus
The Cypriot team prepared two complementary research papers exploring emotional wellbeing from different perspectives.
The first research, "Young People in Cyprus, Emotions and Relationships," focuses on the everyday experiences of young people, examining why emotional expression can be difficult, the role emotions play in friendships and relationships, and how family expectations, social media, fear of judgement, and mental health stigma influence communication. The paper also draws on findings from the HBSC Cyprus Survey, the Cyprus Youth Barometer, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Health, demonstrating that emotional wellbeing has become an increasingly important issue among adolescents in Cyprus.
The second paper, "Emotional Expression Among Young People in Cyprus: Cultural Influences, Social Challenges and Creative Pathways for Wellbeing," adopts a broader perspective by examining the cultural traditions of Cyprus, the importance of family and community life, the role of schools and youth organisations, digital challenges, and the contribution of non-formal education and Erasmus+ projects in promoting emotional wellbeing. The research highlights creativity, intercultural dialogue, and youth participation as essential tools for strengthening resilience and emotional expression.
Together, these two papers provide a comprehensive overview of the emotional realities experienced by young people in Cyprus while offering practical recommendations for creating safer and more supportive environments where emotions can be expressed openly.

Emotional Expression Among Young People in Cyprus
Poster 1 – Understanding Emotions
The first poster introduces some of the emotions most frequently experienced by young people, including happiness, excitement, sadness, stress, tiredness, and anger. It reminds viewers that experiencing different emotions is completely normal and encourages young people to recognise and accept their feelings rather than hide them.
Its central message reinforces one of the main ideas of the project: every emotion is valid, and emotional awareness is the first step towards emotional wellbeing.

Poster 2 – Creative Activities Express Emotions
The second poster demonstrates how creativity provides alternative ways of expressing emotions when words are not enough. It explains how music, art, theatre, and photography help young people communicate happiness, sadness, hope, fear, and many other emotions while simultaneously building confidence, empathy, and emotional resilience.
The poster also identifies two of today's most common barriers to emotional expression: social media pressure and fear of being judged by others, encouraging participants to seek authentic communication instead of hiding behind appearances.

Poster 3 – Barriers to Expressing Feelings
The final poster explores the reasons why many people struggle to express emotions openly. It identifies six major barriers: fear of judgement, fear of rejection, lack of confidence, family and cultural expectations, past experiences, and difficulty identifying emotions. The poster also explains why emotional expression is important, highlighting its contribution to better communication, stronger relationships, reduced stress, and improved mental wellbeing.

Poster 4 – Creative Expression
The fourth poster highlights the power of creativity as a universal language for emotions. Through art, theatre, music, and photography, the participants demonstrate that emotions do not always need words to be understood. Each creative discipline offers a different way of expressing personal experiences, building confidence, and strengthening empathy.
The poster also explains how creative expression contributes to emotional wellbeing by helping people understand themselves, connect with others, release difficult emotions, and celebrate positive experiences. It concludes with the encouraging reminder: "Be yourself. It's okay to feel."

Poster 5 – Understanding Emotions: Why Every Feeling Matters
The fifth poster introduces some of the emotions that young people experience most frequently, including happiness, anxiety, sadness, anger, fear, and love. Rather than classifying emotions as good or bad, it explains that every emotion has a purpose and deserves recognition.
The poster also illustrates why emotional awareness is important, showing how understanding emotions contributes to healthier relationships, better communication, improved mental wellbeing, stress management, and greater self-confidence. It concludes with one of the key messages of the project: "All emotions are normal. Learning to recognize and express them in healthy ways is an important part of growing up."

Overall Creative Collection
The Cypriot team produced one of the most comprehensive preparation packages within the Feelings Unleashed project by combining academic research, evidence-based analysis, and creative educational resources. Through two complementary research papers and three educational posters, the participants explored emotional wellbeing from psychological, cultural, educational, and social perspectives.
Their work demonstrates that emotional expression is not only a personal skill but also a shared responsibility supported by families, schools, youth organisations, and communities. By encouraging empathy, creativity, active listening, and open communication, the Cypriot team provides valuable educational resources that will contribute significantly to the intercultural learning experience during the Feelings Unleashed Youth Exchange in Greece.
